Product Overview
SBS (Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene) modified bitumen waterproofing membrane is a high-performance waterproof material. It is made by using SBS rubber-modified asphalt as the coating layer, with fiberglass mat, polyester mat, or fiberglass-reinforced polyester mat as the reinforcement layer. Both sides are covered with isolating materials. This product has excellent properties such as heat resistance, cold resistance, corrosion resistance, aging resistance, good thermoplasticity, high tensile strength, high elongation, and strong tear resistance.
Application Scope
This waterproofing membrane is suitable for a wide range of waterproof protection projects, including industrial and civil buildings such as roofs, basements, walls, bathrooms, pools, canals, subways, tunnels, highways, bridges, and airport runways. It can also be used for anti-corrosion protection of metal containers and pipelines. It is a widely applicable and high-performance waterproof material that can be used in both single-layer and multi-layer systems. It can be applied using either torch-on (hot melt) or cold adhesive methods.
Fiberglass-reinforced polyester mat membranes can be used for mechanically fastened single-layer waterproofing systems but must pass wind load resistance tests. Fiberglass mat membranes are suitable as base layers in multi-layer waterproofing systems. For exposed use, the top surface should be covered with opaque mineral granules, and for underground waterproofing projects, membranes with a fine sand surface should be used.

Product Features
High Elasticity: SBS membranes are highly elastic and can adapt to the deformation of the substrate, minimizing damage to the waterproof layer due to substrate movement.
Cold Resistance: These membranes retain good flexibility and elasticity even in low temperatures, making them ideal for cold regions.
Aging Resistance: Excellent aging resistance ensures long-term waterproof performance, extending the life of the building.
Ease of Construction: SBS membranes have good weldability, making installation fast and convenient, thus improving construction efficiency.
Storage and Transportation
Different types and specifications should be stored separately and not mixed. Avoid sun exposure and rain, and ensure good ventilation. Storage temperature should not exceed 50°C. Rolls should be stored upright, with stacking height not exceeding two layers.
During transportation by ship or train, rolls must be placed upright and stacked no more than two layers high. Prevent tilting or horizontal pressure, and cover with felt if necessary.
Avoid contact with organic solvents such as xylene or gasoline.
Keep away from fire during storage and transportation.
Under normal storage and transportation conditions, the shelf life is one year from the production date.
Application Process
Tools Required:
Special torch for hot-melt application, liquefied gas cylinder, metal trowel, utility knife.
Adhesion Methods:
Torch-On Method (Hot Melt):
Unroll and align the membrane along the pre-marked lines. Roll back 2–3 meters from one end, then use a torch to heat the underside of the membrane until it becomes black and shiny with a molten layer. Quickly press the membrane into place using foot pressure and a roller, ensuring a small amount of melt extrudes at the edges. After fixing one end, repeat the process for the other side.Cold Adhesion Method:
Use adhesives or mastic to bond the membrane to the substrate or between membrane layers.Precautions
1. Substrate Quality
The waterproofing substrate (leveling layer) must be solid, flat, dry, and clean. Loose particles and sharp objects must be removed. Any defects in the substrate should be repaired before waterproofing. A primer must be applied. The surface must be free of ice, snow, or standing water.
2. Construction Quality
For full adhesion: avoid wrinkles or bubbles.
For semi-adhesion: apply heat to the unbonded area to ensure tight contact with the base.
For loose laying: ensure perimeter adhesion and use ballast weights.
When torching: use appropriate flame intensity—avoid burning the top surface black; do not apply low, prolonged heat.
In winter construction: use products rated 10°C below ambient temperature, store above 0°C, and move them to the site before use. Avoid dropping or tossing rolls during handling.
