Product Overview
Asphalt mastic is a black, viscous material made by heating and mixing asphalt as the main raw material with a certain proportion of mineral fillers and additives. It possesses excellent weather resistance, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance, making it widely used in construction and road engineering. Asphalt mastic is a high-performance polymer-based anti-corrosion and waterproof material, serving as a permanent solution. It has a long service life and is easy to apply, typically lasting over 50 years.
Technical Parameters
Appearance: Black paste
Oxygen Index (OI): >30%
Adhesion strength: At 20°C, 1.5 kg/cm²
Density: 1600–1700 kg/m³
High-temperature stability: No flowing or bubbling after being placed at a 45° angle for 4 hours at 95°C, then for 1 hour at 120°C
Freeze resistance: No cracking or separation after hanging at -40°C to +95°C for 2 hours
Corrosion resistance: No change after immersion in 40% sulfuric acid for 2 hours
Operating temperature: -40°C to +95°C
Water absorption: After 24 hours at room temperature, water absorption is no more than 1% of the sample’s weight
Classification
By usage method:
Heating type
Non-heating type (solvent-based): Ready-to-use, more environmentally friendly, and easier to apply
By consistency (solvent-based):
Thick paste type: Suitable for applications over 2mm thick
Thin paste type: Suitable for applications between 0.3mm and 2mm thick
Application Scope
Underground construction projects: For anti-corrosion and waterproofing of concrete foundations (bottom, sides, back), foundation pits, and basements
Cement-based buildings: Foundations, ground surfaces, bridge piers, railways, ports, docks, coal mines, and oilfield drilling sites
Water-related structures: Trenches, water towers, pools, cooling towers, sewage tanks, and potable water tanks
New and old residential/commercial buildings: Roofs, bathrooms, gutters, balconies, exterior walls, basements, warehouses, tunnels, and expansion joint filling in bridges
Metal pipes, reinforced concrete: Prevents steel corrosion and prolongs concrete life
Product Features
Wide applicability and long service life
Excellent weather resistance, high tensile strength, and large elongation
Strong adaptability to substrate shrinkage and deformation
Superior acid and alkali resistance, corrosion, and waterproof performance
Easy to apply even on complex surfaces
Solves the common issues of traditional waterproof materials such as coating sag, membrane bulging, and difficulty in complex detailing
Completely replaces traditional anti-corrosion and waterproof materials
Offers better corrosion resistance, waterproofing, and insulation than conventional options
Storage & Transportation
Temperature control: Store at -5°C to 45°C, avoiding direct sunlight and high temperatures. High heat accelerates solvent evaporation, causing thickening or skinning; low temperatures may cause solidification and hinder performance
Sealing: Keep sealed during storage to prevent air exposure. Reseal immediately after opening, and cover with plastic film if necessary to avoid hardening
Humidity control: Store in a dry environment, away from water sources. Moisture may corrode packaging or affect adhesion
Ventilation: Ensure good ventilation during storage and transport to prevent material degradation in closed conditions
Avoid tilting or lying flat: Containers should remain upright to prevent damage
Packaging integrity: Regularly inspect for leaks or damage during long-term storage
Application Process
Surface preparation: Ensure the surface is clean, flat, dry, and free of oil, dust, water, or contaminants. Repair cracks, bulges, or loose areas beforehand
Material preparation: Asphalt mastic usually comes pre-mixed and ready to use. Verify quality and correct formulation before use
Mixing: Pour into a container and stir with a brush or mixer for at least 3 minutes. Add diluents or hardeners as needed
Application: Apply evenly with a brush, roller, scraper, or trowel. Ensure uniform thickness and full coverage without voids or missed spots. Do not exceed 3mm in thickness per layer
Curing: Allow the material to cure for about 24 hours (adjust according to specific product type)
Primer usage: Apply a primer coat before the mastic to improve adhesion and durability
Maintenance: After construction, maintain the coating to prevent cracking or detachment. Perform regular inspections to ensure long-term effectiveness
Construction process: For specific projects like concrete sub-bases and foundations, the steps may include:
Base cleaning → First coat of cold primer → Second coat of cold primer → Intermediate inspection → Asphalt mastic coating → Final inspection
Note: The specific method of use may vary depending on the type of asphalt mastic and the construction environment. Always refer to the product manual or consult professionals before use.
